You Are Only As Successful As Your Inner Circle- Choose Wisely

The people you choose to surround yourself with on a daily basis play an instrumental role in your life.

Spend your time with winners….they’ll help you become one.

Spend your time with losers….they’ll bring you down to their level.

Your inner circle can include your close friends/family, business partners, & individuals in your network with whom you’ve built a relationship with (I hate the term “networking.” I prefer to use the word connecting).

Jim Rohn said it best:

“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”

You are the average of 5 people

On the surface, this quote may seem like a generic statement, but it holds a ton of validity to it. All of us have people in our life that either bring us UP or bring us DOWN.

  • If you work with the most respected artists in your niche, you’ll become a better artist.
  • If you work out with the top athletes in your sport, you’ll become a better athlete.
  • If you work with the best business minds, you’ll become a better business person.

As you can see from the above 3 examples, having a strong inner circle can positively impact you in all types of areas.

One area where I constantly see a person’s “inner circle” playing a positive role is in those looking for a new job or a new business opportunity.

When it comes to acquiring one, most of us take the wrong approach.

We spend hours on the same job sites as everyone else….blast out emails…..& pray for that perfect job to magically land in our laps.

This is not how good positions ever get filled. For more in depth tips on the best way to land higher paying work, read my post on Why Can Resumes Hurt Your Chances of Getting Hired? How to Fix It?

The majority of high paying jobs (and even jobs in general nowadays) get taken by referrals through a friend, acquaintance, or co-worker. They aren’t given to those searching Craigslist.

The stronger your inner circle, the more opportunities will be presented to you.

When you surround yourself with like-minded individuals, you will all reaps the benefits.

There will be times when you look up to others in your circle for mentorship & guidance. There will be other times when you’ll be looked at by others as their go to resource.

If you can take one point away from this post, it’s to take a deeper look at your inner circle.

Are they bringing you UP or bringing you DOWN?

Strive toward surrounding yourself with more people bringing you up. Your shared visions, accountability, and mindsets will take you all to greater levels of success.
